IMPACT
The impact of our project is to show people, mainly girls, what they can accomplish in robotics and that they can successfully compete with boys.
When people think of robotics, they typically think of a boy or a man. Girls are often told they can't or shouldn't do something, just because they are girls. This is completely wrong. Girls should not be afraid to show how amazing and capable they really are.
It would be a fantastic added result if this team of 12 girls could also inspire just one student, boy or girl, to pursue something they love without fear.
By showing 4th and 5th graders how to build robots, students will be able to see what they can accomplish and that anything they dream or want to do in life is possible. If this can be done, the point of view of many young minds can be shifted.
"Our dream is that the gender barrier will be broken. "
"GirlPowered. I loved it. It really made me think about starting a career of robotics.
And to keep following that career I would love to continue with it, especially with
Stauffer GirlPowered."
- Nina, 5th grader
"GirlPowered was super exciting because we built robots and got help from our
big sisters. It was a super fun experience to work with people who know how to
make robots. I enjoyed being with Stauffer GirlPowered."
- Sara, 5th grader
"I had a good experience in GirlPowered, because we got to create robots and then
activate them. My big sisters were really helpful in understanding how to create and
activate the robots. It would be awesome if they did it again. It was also fun with
Mr. Tansopalucks. It was cool being a Stauffer GirlPowered."
- Jada, 5th grader
"GirlPowered was important to me because I learned about engineering.
I really loved the experience there. It was so fun! The first time I walked in,
I wanted to be a engineer. I got along with everyone there. Everyone was
really nice. I had so much fun. Thank you for the experience at Stauffer."
- Rachel, 5th grader
"I had a great time when I was in Girl Powered. GirlPowered was super awesome
because we were able to learn a lot about engineering. It was so awesome to make
a robot and being able to play with it. I loved to be with my big sister, Juliet. I hope
I can be in GirlPowered when I am in Stauffer!"
- Violet, 5th grader
"I loved being in robotics. I learned so many new things about the tech world.
I miss GirlPowered and also my big sister, Juliet. I hope they visit us some time
in the future. Being in Stauffer Robotics has encouraged me to do so many things
and also to be an engineer when I grow up. I will miss robotics.
- Isha, 5th grader
"GirlPowered was an awesome experience and very fun! I loved GirlPowered because
we got to build a robot from a Vex kit. After we were done building the robot, we got to
name our robot. Our brothers and our sisters would help us when my partner and I did
not get one of the steps. The people that helped us a lot were Cole and Jarin. I can't
wait to go to Stauffer. Also, Mr.T was really nice. He was awesome!
- Briana, 5th grader
"GirlPowered was a fun and nice experience. It was fun because we were building robots and we had Stauffer students to help us. Andrea P was the girl in Stauffer that helped me and she was nice and easy to talk to. I worked with another girl that was really nice and funny, named Kassandra. We learned to never give up and to push yourself to get to your goal. Sometimes we had to do it all over again because we did a mistake but it made us learn to not make the same mistake twice. Mr. T was really nice and helped a little too. We build a robot and we persevered all the way until we finished, but the hard part was to figure out what to name it and in the end we named it, Soul. It was a fun and I learned a lot and next year I will for sure join the robotics club.
